As a business, we saw an opportunity to make a difference to our environment by creating our insulation products from recycled material - specifically PET.
This material is primarily found in your 2L fizzy drinks bottles and when converted to polyester provides a highly effective and eco-friendly insulation material.
Eco-Friendly Insulation Solutions
Think Green Insulation has taken up the challenge to deliver high-quality recycled insulation that saves energy and is both user and eco-friendly.
Reducing Ocean Pollution
When we were looking for ways to create our products, we decided to look at solving one the most pressing environmental issues of the day and that is the increasing number of PET bottles finding their way into the environment.
Like this image here, millions of PET bottles find their way ( by human hands) into the oceans , landfills and rubbish dumps every year.
Posing a hazard to marine and terrestrial life alike, this problem was growing exponentially.
100% Recycled Materials
Think Green Insulation is a company that offers insulation manufactured from 100% recycled plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.
How PET becomes recycled insulation.
The process starts with taking thousands of PET bottles being collected and processed into usable plastic pellets that are then woven into sheets and become polyester.
From there, they are made into polyester sheets and that’s when we get hold of them.
Bringing these into our factory, we then run them through our machines and create high quality insulation products such as roof and ceiling insulation and geyser blankets.

Why Recycled PET?
Recycled insulation is an effective insulator.
With it’s properties , PET makes for a high quality and effective insulator and fire testing shows that PET does not ignite, it simple melts and therefore does not pose an additional fire threat should the roof or ceiling catch fire.
For businesses looking for cost effective ways to insulate and save energy and money, the fact that PET is easy to handle and install and does not require gloves or protective gear to install makes it a very practical product to use.
For homes as well, recycled insulation provides an easy DIY option for the home owner, whether it be for ceiling insulation as well as geyser blankets.
Also, it is important to note that the PET recycled insulation products pose no health threat to inhabitants and this is another big plus.

The Environmental Impact of Recycling PET
Recycling one ton of plastic bottles saves 1,5 tons of CO2 vs landfill or incineration.
More than 1,4 billion PET bottles have been recycled in South Africa to date.
The most common container in the soft-drink market in South Africa today is the PET bottle. Recognisable as the trans- parent, rigid container used to package bottled water, carbonated soft drinks (CSDs), sports drinks, water, juice, peanut butter, salad dressings, oil, cosmetics and householdcleaners, PET is labelled with the #1 code and is 100% recyclable.
Discarded post-consumer PET bottles are collected, baled and delivered to the recycler. In the recycling plant, the bottle tops are removed and the bottles are inspected and sorted according to colour and material. The sorted bottles are washed and then conveyed to a granulator, where they are reduced to flakes before being screened.
The finished product takes the form of small clear pellets, which are supplied to end-users for production into a number of everyday household items, including the Think Green Insulation sheets that we supply and install.
